I got to know about the idea of volunteering for IFFK
from my cousin Goutham. He was a part of 22nd IFFK. Due to some
personal issues, I was unable to participate in the 22nd and 23rd
film festival. I thoroughly decided that I will join them on the 24th
edition. And god’s grace, it happened.
The
process started with sending resume to the IFFK mail and attending the
interview. I did fairly good on the interview. I was appointed for hotel duty. My
mind was filled with questions and excitement. At one side, I was excited as
heck to work with Goutham,Vaishak, and Amal, my close friends. I only knew them
as my best buddies, but never as my colleagues. That experience was damn good.
IFFK seemed like a big puzzle at first. I solved it step-by-step. I was aware
of that volunteers are not allowed to watch films. I accepted the fact and made
my decision. And it was a fine one.
I am a sucker for meeting new people and mingling with total strangers. That aspect
of my personality was satisfied by IFFK. As a journalism student and a future
journalist, I consider these activities as a ground level exercise to improve communication
skills and making some worthy contacts. IFFK did justice to that also. A major
share of IFFK memories will be the night rides with my buddies. There will be
four of us and four motorcycles. We will enjoy every bit of the freedom and the
empty roads. By riding responsibly.
But
still, the film lover inside me was always jealous at Krishnapriya, Achuth and
Meghana. They got to watch a handful of films, and enjoy the vibe of the
festival on a whole, while I was stuck with my duties.
The
last day was one hell of a day to remember. The special ‘Pinapple Sarbath’ from Sreekandeshwaram, night ride, the ride
back home from Pattom etc were just amazing. A big thanks to my best buddies,
especially Goutham, Vaishak for implanting this whole idea onto my head, and special thanks to the
coordiantors of the IFFK.
