Red is to STOP.

One of the biggest problems that every sensible rider faces on the road is the signal jumping. Motorcycles are very vulnerable, so are the riders. We balance the whole thing in just two wheels. A slight miss-judgement can be fatal. I always wonder how someone can be this much irresponsible on the roads. By their act of pure carelessness, many lives around them get affected.

Signal jumping can be found on many junctions all around Thiruvananthapuram. But, it’s very prominent in the Karamana-Kaliyikkavila Inter-state highway, especially at Neeramankara junction. I reside at Vinayaka Nagar. I come across at least two signal jumpers on a normal day. The road facilities are immaculate on this stretch. Amidst some of the worst roads, this highway is properly maintained. If someone is providing something to us, it’s our duty to make good use of it, in a positive way. Here, the roads and signal system are fully-fledged and our people are not giving any importance to it.

Major junctions and signals in Thiruvananthapuram do have camera systems to monitor the vehicles. At those places, people are more careful with the way they drive. In this case, the Neeramankara signal does not have a camera system. Our penalty scheme and Police Department play a major part in controlling the accidents in the city areas. Most of the accidental deaths happen around local premises. A lion share of people won’t wear helmets for short distance rides like grocery shopping. They find that the cameras and police are not present. This is a huge motivation to signal jumpers and squids. A proper camera and penalty system can change this situation. The Motor Vehicles Department takes up a herculean task of giving some quality awareness classes before handing the license to someone. Those classes are really helpful. They give you the basic ideology of road safety. Apart from all these classes, awareness campaigns, and all facilities, we are still reckless on the roads.

The aspect of Road Safety comes from Road Sense. It’s not rocket science. Road sense is something that every human should have. Using indicators while making a turn or while changing lane, stopping at a signal, prevention of honking at a signal, wearing seatbelts, wearing helmets, stopping your vehicle for pedestrians, prevention of overtaking from left side, are some of the baby steps you can make in order to achieve the qualities of a sensible rider/driver.

The idea of ‘live and let live’ is pivotal. If you are approaching a signal and you see the yellow light, slow down and stop. Let others drive peacefully. The patience you show for some seconds can save your life and others on the road. By that same idea, you are living and letting others to live peacefully.

IFFK Experience.

I got to know about the idea of volunteering for IFFK from my cousin Goutham. He was a part of 22 nd IFFK. Due to some personal issues, I was unable to participate in the 22 nd and 23 rd film festival. I thoroughly decided that I will join them on the 24 th edition. And god’s grace, it happened. The process started with sending resume to the IFFK mail and attending the interview. I did fairly good on the interview. I was appointed for hotel duty. My mind was filled with questions and excitement. At one side, I was excited as heck to work with Goutham,Vaishak, and Amal, my close friends. I only knew them as my best buddies, but never as my colleagues. That experience was damn good. IFFK seemed like a big puzzle at first. I solved it step-by-step. I was aware of that volunteers are not allowed to watch films. I accepted the fact and made my decision. And it was a fine one.     I am a sucker for meeting new people and mingling with total strangers. That aspect of my

Crispy Outside, Fluffy Inside.

The ‘Potti Hotel’ culture is very famous in Thiruvananthapuram. These hotels are usually found near temples. Malayalees all over the world would love to have a delicious meal from a pure vegetarian ‘Potti Hotel’ after a blissful visit to temple. In Trivandrum, there are two famous eateries that are known for the quality and taste they provide. If you are a Trivian, you should be knowing of these famous names. ‘Venkadesha Bhavan’ and ‘Balaji Cafe’. See, speaking as a ‘TamBhram’ from Trivandrum, the word Karavada will make me drool all over the place. The two eateries that I mentioned, makes the best Karavadas in town. As an ardent fan and a regular customer of both of them, I am happy to share my experience. The Karavada from Balaji Cafe is a little bit small in size compared to the ones from Venkadesha Bhavan. The sides for this evening snack are Sambar and Chutney. Though both of these eateries provide good quality sides, Venkadesha Bhavan’s sambar and chutney is my personal f
