Weekend Excursion.

According to you, what is the best possible way to start a day? A coffee?  tea? music? For me, a short ride on my bike will make my day a whole lot better. It’s about an awesome ride that I went with my friends back in July.

We came to know about Kaalippara from Instagram. The landscape looked amazing and we were awestruck! It is situated near the Kattakada town. Approximately thirty kilometres from Trivandrum city. The roads were fairly good except some huge potholes in the middle of the road. In order to catch the sunrise from the hill top, we started our ride at 5 am from Kaimanam. It took us about forty five minutes to reach the spot. The approach way is easy to locate. Even at this early hour, locals helped us to pinpoint the location.

After some rough roads, we reached our destination. There is a temple on the top of the hill. You will have to do some mild trekking to reach the spot. As someone not very fit, even the first and most easiest climb looked devastating to me. I remembered the epic dialogue from the movie Kung Fu Panda at that moment. “Oh steep climb! My good old enemy!” I struggled. Each steep was equally herculean to me. All my thin friends kept moving like Lamborghinis while I struggled like a Maruthi 800 on a race track.

After thirty minutes of trekking, excruciating muscle pain, and severe wheezing, we reached ‘The Spot’. A beautiful temple located on a hill top. Clouds all around us. Luscious greenery. An ariel view of the majestic Neyyar Dam. The weather was amusing to us. We were fascinated by the vibe. How a single place can be this pleasant at this peak of summer! All the struggles and pain I had to face, washed away in just seconds. The place was untouched by the spoils of civilization. Never came across any plastic litter. We sat near the temple. Enjoyed the sunrise and remained silent for some quality time. That quick meditation session helped me to make my mind straight.

We spent about three hours on the hilltop. By that time, it was fuming hot. Sun was blazing like crazy. After capturing some memories, we started the return journey. We forgot to bring drinking water with us. All of us were tired, thirsty and hungry. We started our ride back to home. Had some delish ‘Thatt dosa’ from Kattakada. This place is a must visit. Don’t forget to carry drinking water.

The part of taking my bike to different locations and exploring places is really exciting for me. Looking forward to more rides and making solid memories. Amidst of the people who are addicted to phubbing, we four took the liberty to enjoy nature and be a human, and by that we reassured the relation with Mother Nature.

Peppa.

May 29th of 2020 marked the 60th bday of my dearest peppa, Dr T Neelakantan. The pillar of our family. The word (Peppa is the shortform of Periyappa, father's elder brother) I know, these penny amount of words won't be just enough to communicate my happiness and respect towards him. Though a humble attempt to do so. My love for motorcycles and vehicles in general, came from my father. But, my interest in photography and cameras came from Peppa.  Peppa, A teacher by profession, now enjoying his retired life and recently took a promotion as grand father. A Professional Photography Hobbyist, Nikon lover, an expert in almost every genre of photography, music lover (especially vintage songs), a tech enthusiast and a fully equipped tech adviser, a huge nature lover, a person with a big heart, and mainly, the backbone of our family.  Peppa and his photos play a major part in my life. Sometimes I wonder, What would have happened if he never gifted me that Canon Po...

Crispy Outside, Fluffy Inside.

The ‘Potti Hotel’ culture is very famous in Thiruvananthapuram. These hotels are usually found near temples. Malayalees all over the world would love to have a delicious meal from a pure vegetarian ‘Potti Hotel’ after a blissful visit to temple. In Trivandrum, there are two famous eateries that are known for the quality and taste they provide. If you are a Trivian, you should be knowing of these famous names. ‘Venkadesha Bhavan’ and ‘Balaji Cafe’. See, speaking as a ‘TamBhram’ from Trivandrum, the word Karavada will make me drool all over the place. The two eateries that I mentioned, makes the best Karavadas in town. As an ardent fan and a regular customer of both of them, I am happy to share my experience. The Karavada from Balaji Cafe is a little bit small in size compared to the ones from Venkadesha Bhavan. The sides for this evening snack are Sambar and Chutney. Though both of these eateries provide good quality sides, Venkadesha Bhavan’s sambar and chutney is my personal f...
